A very useful concept, but since file syncing is something that probably should be built into the OS, it needs to be on guard against being pilfered or obseleted by future stuff at Apple.

This is an interesting idea, but the problem is that I’ve heard variations on this theme for the last 10 years. Many people have tried to bring the newspaper format into the digital realm and nothing has stuck yet. The problem is that the format and interaction experience of the offline world don’t translate that well. The medium dictates and constrains the experience, and it’s usually best to reinvent when you change mediums.

Before I started doing Mac software as a hobby, I operated a few discussion forums and always wondered about the possibility of building a client-side application. It’s a solid idea, for sure. I think the stumbling block thus far hasn’t been lack of will (there’s a LOT of forum users out there, after all), but the fact that there’s no APIs to hook into. I’d love it, but I don’t know if it’s technically possible.

Weird enough to be great. That’s all I can say.

I do enough travelling to know that something like this would be very useful. I’d like to see some sort of integration with things like airlines and hotels. My concern is that to be effective, this would need to tie in a lot of disparate services, which can be a challenge. Also, some of the features (like linking images to a point on a map) are already accommodated by services like Flickr, which means the software would have to go above and beyond to be competitive.

Initially I thought this was a silly idea. This is what windows are for, after all! I live in Vancouver, and the last thing I want to see on my computer when it’s dark and raining for months on end is more rain. Nonetheless, the idea of mutating the user experience to match one’s context in the physical world is pretty cool and hints at some more interesting possibilities.

Sounds fun. I’m always in favor of mindless entertainment. The challenge is taking this idea beyond being a novelty.

Macs are becoming fashionable, so the next logical step is to make Mac users themselves more fashion conscious. This is hand’s down my favorite one - fun, playful, and actually very useful. Jason Harris is a stylin’ fella, so I could see this turning out well.
