Again, another forum reply that actually elaborated on Whistler a bit so I thought I’d post it here instead rather than filling up the forum with my rantings.

I like Cookbook, but for me Whistler is clearly the standout. Layout, and design is one thing, and innovation is another.[/quote]
Innovation is one thing, a complete implementation of a vision is another…

Isn’t that the entire point of this endeavour? The public innovates, and our experienced team of developers makes it happen. They have hard technical experience, mad design chops and great marketing ability (very evidently).
They just want ideas. An end target to aim for. How that is implemented will flux over the development process as the idea is refined. Some ideas will take more time to refine as others of course.
As for Whistler, well the actual core of the program will be extremely simple.
I mean Appzapper & Photobooth simple.
A refined face to a complicated technology.
I’m still working on a mockup, mainly of new, fun idea for recording your ideas down. But I’m hesistant because I don’t want to say ‘this is exactly what it will look like”.
Or rely too much on a flashy render over substance. I’m not Sony (re : PS3 fake trailers).
But as a teaser, think of the ‘layered sphere’ concept I’ve mentioned in my posts, with the visual style of the incredible Videogame ‘Rez’ and OSX Leopard’s ‘Time Machine’.

The main thing though, is that as far as the user is concerned, Whistler is mainly about what you hear and what you can do.
